Introduce yourself

Non-project-specific matters-- talk about art, music, writing, coding and the creative process.

Right now I'm working on a game that is somewhat roguelike within some strange space, that different from usual reality, like something in "roadside picnic" book, or movie adaptation "stalker" (yes, that popular game series were kind of inspired by book/movie too).
I want to make it focused on exploration and sense of mystery.

Cool. I look forward to seeing more about it : )

Hi, My name's Ben. I do art and game design. You can see some of my illustration and comic work here- http://jelterart.net I've recently started working on a couple of big game projects and I'd like to get to know as many game developers as possible to get a broad range of feedback and ideas. I also recently moved to New York so if any of you live in New York, we could potentially meet up sometime too.

A 2d shooter I'm working on-http://uberhitzen.blogspot.com

I've been meaning to introduce myself on here for a while. My name is Kelly Weaver, and I am an aspiring indie developer from Athens, GA. Aspiring, of course, means that I haven't released anything yet, but I hope to be changing that sometime in the near future.

Oddly, I thought growing up that making games would be terrible. I somehow figured that if I spent all day making video games that it would ruin my love of playing them. Looking back, I think that's a pretty odd thing to think. I started making websites pretty much as soon as I got the internet because I looked at the multitude of websites back then and said "I'd like to try my hand at that." Oddly, the urge to try my hand at game making didn't come until my twenties.

The first game I made was a Missile Command clone. Since I was a proficient programmer, my friend had always joked that I should make a game in which he tries to take over the world. I found myself with a lot of time on my hands one year, and to occupy it, I decided I would make my friend's game for him.

Sometime last year, I saw Ska Studio's "The Dishwasher" and like I did with websites, I finally had that moment of "I'd like to try my hand at that!" Since then, I've come up with and shelved about three projects. I'm about a year into the development of one project, which I've shared with a few people, and a month into another. I'll be posting about both soon.

When I hopefully get a little more time, and some of those shelves dusted, I'd really like to take part in one of the Pageants here. I've set up a website for my "studio" - you can see that at http://www.polymath-games.com.

I can't wait to see the amazing stuff that I know is already coming from here.

hello, i'm adam, or angrygeometry (dumb name i hate it) and i'm 21 from northeast england.

i've been designing games for a long time now, as a kid i would fill notebooks with ideas and cool alien drawings and strange characters to fight crime. when i was about 13 i found the gaming world community (now salt world) and started making pretty awful rpg maker games, until i was introduced to other tools and games.

i studied computer games design at leeds metropolitan university for a few years and hated it. now i make games in game maker but have recently downloaded flashdevelop and also flashpunk so would like to give a real go at flash games.

i'm pretty sloppy when it comes to games, having only really finished one game (for the ludum dare just gone) but have a ton of unfinished projects in a folder called "ADAM YOU ARE NOT CREATIVE".

my twitter is @angrygeometry but i mostly use it to tweet bad jokes about piss and skulls.

Hi everyone!

I've been doing games for some 20 years now, but I've always felt lonely since it is still a bit of a "weird" profession among my peers and my parent's generation. They roll their eyes and keep hoping I will outgrow "the phase". And most internet fora are as they are; angry places, drama scenes or filled with e-prestige, so it is difficult to find a really constructive place with like-minded creative and constructive rather than argumentative people. Since this place actually is called "superfriendshipclub" I have great hopes! :D

So cheers, and here's to having a good, creative and constructive time together! :)

Hello. My name is Wade McGillis.

I started programming in BASIC about a year after I got my first computer. 11 years later and I guess I'm going to college for it. I've never made any good games and I don't like what I make in the first place.

That is all.

Mirosurabu on TIGForums said "Super Friendship Club is pretty much a part of TIGSource community which discourages whoring, so if you're tired of all the attention whores just move there."

... So I decided to visit!

My names Dan and I have been doing game design on and off for a few years. I started on Gamemaker back when it was still run by Mark Overmars and in Version 6. I kind of drifted out of it and now have picked it up again and have at least twenty or so unfinished game prototypes littering my hard drive and even more .png's of game art. Right now I make games in Gamemaker, however I am in the process of learning to code Python, which I hope will allow me to make better games. i love retro and minimalism so you will see that a lot in my games, well game at the moment. I guess that's about it.

Welcome to the forums.

Python won't help you make better games. There are lots of great games made in game-maker, and relative few made with python (the only one I know of off-hand is Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble). That doesn't mean it's not possible, but it's evidence that it's not necessary. Being able to pick up new technologies is always useful in and of itself - you'll probably learn quite a bit in the process, but don't expect python to magically increase your game-making capabilities - there's no evidence that this is the case.

Hi! I'm Madeleine. 25 years old. I've been programming and dabbling in game design since I first discovered QB 12+ years ago. I'm pretty scattered and unfocused, so I jump around from one creative project and medium to another quite often. Which not only means I can go extended periods of time without touching any type of programming, but I also jump from one language to another and subsequently am left with a lot of little knowledge for multiple languages.
These are things I'm trying to change these days. After trying Flixel earlier this year and then deciding to try and re-learn (really learn, as I discovered what I knew from high school classes was of little use) and learn SDL. After a few months of doing nothing, I'm re-evaluating my decision to go with C++ since I'm not sure I picked it for the right reasons. I'll be looking at Flixel and Flash again.
The project I've had in mind for quite some time is a game in a similar style to Shadowgate and Might & Magic 1 and 2. I'm in love with the way those games look and the mechanics and want to see what I can take from them and make something fun, if not original right away.
Since I've been meaning to post this introduction for a long time now and originally awhile back when I wrote a long one, I went to submit it and something happened and I lost it and out of frustration didn't bother re-writing it. Well, the same thing just happened again - so this time, it's short and a lot is missing (whether it was important stuff or not *shrugs*). So, I hope this enough of an introduction. Feel free to ask questions. I'm really good at direct questions, actually.
Anyway, I look forward to getting involved in this community ^^
