Welcome!

I really want to participate in this thing.

Good!

I'm really excited because for pretty much the first time in my life I have an idea that's actually small enough to pull off and is still an idea that I like a lot. But I just got a full time job two weeks ago! Hopefully I can find enough time to work on my idea.

I hope so too!

I'm curious... After the month is over, is there going to be a list compiled with all the games created for the pageant, or are we basically just going to keep the individual games' threads as an archive?

The plan is to put something on the front page that has a list of all the games + screenshots and links to them.

I just signed up for twitter, and I manged to get here (somehow?) I've develop games before (two Ludum Dare's, two games for school and one.. for fun?) The only problem is I go a tad to big. I've been learning C++ but I figured I could take a break and try to make a game before August, Hopefully.

Good luck to everyone, I'm liking this forum :D.

Actually I could use C++ to make the game. Get LOVE or some other 2D Library :D. I'm not sure :/

Thinking too big appears to be the #1 problem everybody has. One of the key skills needed for making a game is the ability to simplify and focus; get your ideas narrowed down to the point where you can actually do them, and then refuse to let the feature creep get a hold of you. And it's really really hard. :-)

I found that once I wrote down these ideas, it makes it easier. You can look at it and normally figure out if this is in your range of do-ability. It doesn't always work, (: more like never works but thats going to be my goal for this pageant, not thinking big. Hopefully I'll be able to think of something. JUSTICE!

Yeah, writing things down is a big help; that way you have a document you can use to remind yourself of what you're doing. If you try to keep it all in your head you're vulnerable to losing sight of what you really want in your project.

Speaking for myself, I think I've done a tolerable job of keeping things managably small for this pageant. Learning a new language and struggling with art assets is challenge enough for one month; I can always add more features once the thing's up and running.

If I hadn't joined these forums late July, then I would totally be in this competition. Alas, I must wait for the next competition.

So, this is OVER now. I'll probably leave it until the end of this week before collecting the games up/putting a page out, to give stragglers a time to finish things up. If you have finished your game, don't forget to put 'DONE' in the thread title (by editing the first post).

I've done a writeup at konzortium.com of the ten games from the pageant that met the following criteria:

-- Had a [Done] flag or something similar on their names
-- Were created for the pageant
-- Were playable in their current form
-- Made some attempt to adhere to the theme

You can read it here if you're so inclined, but it doesn't say anything you don't already know if you've been following the threads on this forum.
